tales.media Availability Report: March 2025

· One min read

In March, we experienced one incident in addition to one planed maintenance resulting in service downtime to tales.media services.

Planed Maintenance (2025-03-07 00:00 UTC – 2025-03-10 23:59 UTC)

To perform a major update of Opencast to version 17, Opencast services were taken down as planned. The downtime was longer than predicted due to the migration from Elasticsearch to OpenSearch, however, all downtime took place in the planed maintenance window.

Service Outage (2025-03-25 05:00 UTC – 2025-03-25 10:13 UTC)

An automated certificate rotation for the database was not properly coordinated with the database/Opencast. As a result, Opencast could no longer connect to the database resulting in an outage of Opencast services. The investigation is still ongoing. We also plan to improve our alerting.

shio solutions has become one year old! A lot has happened from the official founding in October 2023 until today.

Most time in 2023 was spend on administrative concerns. A lot of accounts had to be opened up and we filled out many forms. However, we also worked creatively and defined our current corporate design. Additionally, we had the opportunity to pitch tales.media, our Opencast-based SaaS multimedia solution, publicly for the first time at the Opencast Virtual Summit 2023 in November.

Launching tales.media was our main focus in 2024. Ironing out model contracts took much back and forth. On the technical side, our previous experience helped to define and implement the technical concept for tales.media. We finally launched our SaaS offering with our first clients at the beginning of October.

In this last year, we showed our commitment to the Opencast community by contributing back our changes to the upstream projects and participating in meetings and discussions. Furthermore, we could showcase tales.media to larger audiences during the Opencast Summit 2024 in Zaragoza, Spain as well as the Opencast D/A/CH 2024 in Bremen, Germany.

Of course, our journey has just yet started and we already have many plans for the years to come. In the immediate future, though, we will organize our first tales.media Community Meeting on December 3rd. If you want to learn more about tales.media and how it can help your organization to enable video-based learning, please don't hesitate to contact us and register for this virtual event.
